BOOKS on emotional eating or bingeing:

The first place I got help for my binge eating disorder was from a therapist, the second was from books. Here are some that could help you, too. (* means I’ve read it!)

A compulsive over-eater all my life, I’ve found humour has been a great tool in my recovery. Not the world’s sick humour of laughing at the fat woman, but good old belly laughs. I’m reading a novel recommended to me by a fellow compulsive overeater and it’s making me cry and it’s making me laugh out loud. It’s called What’s Eating Me and it’s set inEssex, England and I’m sure the writer who is called Elaine Spires must either have an eating disorder or be very close to someone who has. It also takes in the realm of reality tv weightloss programmes so it’s very “now”. I just thought I’d mention it – it might help someone who’s reading this post. I feel as if it’s eating me because I can identify with everything that Eileen the main character does, says and feels. You have to order it online from http://www.lulu.com Thanks for this website – it helps to know others go through the same as me. Lizzie

I got a book for Christmas this year- Portia de Rossi’s Unbearable Lightness.
I’d just like to recommend it to every single women in the world. It really helped me with my anorexia, but it is also great for those who always fall for the fad diets and bulimics and any other person who has some weird food habits. I’m no where near better or recovered, but I wouldn’t be as far as I am now without that book.
